Over time, Dentures form plaque and tartar build up (just like natural teeth). Once plaque hardens into tartar it can be very hard to remove and is an invitation for bacterial accumulation which can cause tissue problems. Many people are unaware that dentures require daily care and professional cleaning. Tartar is very hard and cannot be removed by simply brushing and/or soaking dentures at home. You should never attempt to remove tartar off your denture by scraping the denture. This can cause permanent damage to a denture.
At Xerri Denture Clinic, our Denturists can offer same-day denture cleaning to safely remove tartar and clean your dentures. Contact us to book your denture cleaning appointment and let us help you.

Brush your dentures at least daily using a denture brush
Remove and gently clean your dentures daily. Soak and brush them with a denture brush or soft-bristled brush and nonabrasive denture cleanser to remove food, plaque and other deposits. If you use denture adhesive, clean the grooves that fit against your gums to remove any remaining adhesive.
The shape of most types of dentures is maintained by keeping them moist. Dentures can be soaked overnight in water or a mild denture-soaking solution. Always clean and soak dentures according to the manufacturerโs instructions, to preserve dentures.
We Strongly advise a professional denture cleaning by your denturist once a year. Dentures that are not properly cleaned accumulate tartar. If this tartar is not removed each day, it provides the perfect place for bacteria, harmful parasites, and viruses to collect. These germs infiltrate the tiny pores in the materials used to fabricate dentures. Although dentures will not last forever, regular maintenance at home and by your denturist will help preserve your denture.
We do not recommend using tooth paste, bleach, baking soda, or any other alternative product that is not designed to be used on a denture, as it is to abrasive and will damage the denture in time. Dish liquid soap with non abrasive particles is an exception and can be used on dentures.
